Gold necklace worth ₹45,000 stolen from Serampore jewellery shop by posing customer

A gold necklace weighing about 4 grams and valued at approximately ₹45,000 was stolen from a jewellery shop on N.S. Avenue in Serampore, Hooghly district. Police said the accused posed as a customer, tricked the shop owner, and fled with the ornament. The shop owner, identified as Sunil Dutt, immediately reported the matter to Serampore police.

CCTV footage from the shop is being reviewed to identify the suspect. Officials confirmed that a search is underway to trace the accused. The incident follows a similar theft reported earlier from another jewellery shop in Serampore, in which the accused was later arrested from Howrah.

In recent weeks, Chanditala has also seen a comparable incident, and Dankuni reported a major robbery at a large jewellery outlet. The series of thefts has led to increased security checks and police focus on jewellery markets in the region.
